Annual Regatta – 19 & 20 August 2023
We look forward to welcoming sailors, volunteers and other non-sailing members at the BRSC annual Regatta on Saturday 19 and Sunday 20 August at Needs Ore. The forecast is predicting moderate southerly wind conditions on both days so we should have some fun sailing.
Registration for those wishing to sail will be at 1030hrs on both days. There will be a short briefing with racing starting at 1200hrs on Saturday with Gerard Downes, Miranda Knowles and Tom Karsten on the platform and 1230hrs on Sunday with Ginna Gayner, David and Alison Moore-Gwyn and Jay Devonshire running the show. Please go to the website https://brsc.site to see the full programme and volunteer rota. And bring a picnic for lunch.
For those sailing, please make sure your boats are sea-worthy and remind yourself of the sailing rules.

This year there will be 5 x laser races with 1 discard and 3 x scow races on both days competing for the Challenge Cup, Chichester Trophy, Young’s Trophy and Commodore’s Trophy respectively. We are also planning 4 x topper races over the 2 days with 2 discards competing for the Tew Salver. We are also intending to introduce 4 x junior scow races, starting with the toppers, over the 2 days, again with 2 discards, competing for the brand new Gayner Scow Trophy. Please make sure the junior sailors are aware as we’d love to encourage as many as we can to take part.
For those of you who are not planning to sail, please join us to be part of the occasion and bring a picnic lunch. On the Sunday teas and cakes will be provided after racing and before Prize Giving which will take place at 1730hrs. Please do bring a cake if you feel inclined.
Dogs are allowed at Needs Ore but must be kept on a lead at all times. And remember to drive a a snail’s pace past the Needs Ore Cottages.
A massive thank you to all the volunteers who have offered to help make these days work. You know who you are! And a special thank you to Sam van Holthe, Charles Nicholson, June Kirkman (or Andrew Duncan) and Ian Strathcarron for providing their boats as extra safety boats for the event. Your boats can stay on the pontoon overnight on Saturday.
We look forward to seeing you for some fine competition and merriment and fingers crossed some decent summer weather.
