TRIAL SCOW RACE – ROPE FACTORY FIELD

We are pleased to announce that we will be running a trial Scow race from Rope Factory Field on 17th October.  The committee has only sanctioned this with the proviso that ALL prevailing Government Covid regulations are adhered to; in particular the ‘rule of six’ when ashore before & after the race.

Whilst we realise they run counter to the relaxed informality of our normal activities
we are obliged to apply additional instructions, which are briefly outlined below:

1. To take part, your scow must be in Rope Factory Field, rigged and ready to sail prior to 17th October as the field will be closed all morning other than to those arriving to participate. Do not attempt to trail your boat to RFF, or come down to rig it,
on the morning of the 17th itself.

2. You must pre-register. Registration is open now & closes on Monday 12th October. Numbers may be restricted and on a first come, first served basis. That said we will attempt to maximise the fleet size whilst adhering to ‘rule of six’ logistics.

To register please use this link: scows@brsc.org.uk to send me your name, boat name, sail number and if you are sailing with a crew please also declare this and include their name – we need an accurate number of participants up front.

In the week leading up to the race, pre-registrants will receive a further email from me confirming their registration has been accepted and containing detailed instructions. This email will include a strict arrival time at Rope Factory Field. I will be manning the gate and will only allow access to those arriving within their allocated ‘time slot’ and in accordance with their pre-registration details.

3. Only pre-registered sailors and crew will be permitted access – no ‘hangers-on’ or non-sailing family and friends. When you arrive launch your boat and immediately go afloat. This allows other sailors to enter the field after you.

4. The club hut and loo are closed to all.  If you need the toilet please use the conveniences in the village. Only touch your own boat, trolley and possessions.
You may wish to wear a face covering until you are on the river.

5. Ross will be Beachmaster on the slipway and will help you launch.

6. When all participants are afloat the five minute starting sequence will commence. Please note you may be required to sail around for some time before the race while others launch.

8. If conditions allow we will endeavour to run two races back to back. Do NOT come ashore between races.

9. After the racing Ross will control the rush of sailors returning to shore – you may be ushered away until there is space for you in RFF.

10. Tidy away your scow promptly and leave RFF immediately.

These may seem like draconian instructions but such are the times we live in.

By registering you signify you will abide by these rules. If you aren’t happy with any of them then please don’t register.

If this event is deemed to be a success then we will reinstate the remaining races of the year and run the Borthwick Cup series with a winner announced at a later date.

NOTICEBOARD:

Whilst I am contacting you let me also publicise another opportunity to race.
The LRSCA and Keyhaven YC are staging an autumn series, which is open to
our LR compatible scows. The first two races will take place on Sunday 1st November, with subsequent racing on the following three Sundays.
If you would like to participate please let me know and I will send you further details.

Kind Regards
