Report for Scow Borthwick Cup – 4 – by Darren Firth
On that particular Sunday the morning was dull & cloudy. But as race time approached the sun showed up giving us a beautiful afternoon for our enjoyment.
Winds were very light causing pockets of still air that we are used to encountering when sailing at the top of the river . This caused the need to re-position one of the racing marks to an area that wasn’t so starved of wind.
It was a good start with no penalties.
Just a simple course with D to port & then the re-positioned C mark to starboard & onwards down the river passed O to the finish at the Brickyards where we had a splendid tea kindly hosted by Christoph & Sarah Brooke.
As the tide was now on the ebb we needed to return to Rope Factory field before to long.
I really enjoyed the sail back as there was no need to concentrate on racing , so could enjoy the fantastic natural beauty of my surroundings.
As always many thanks to the volunteers who make it all possible.
