Scow News & Autumn Series Race 3 Report posted by Victoria

We had an exceptionally high tide at RFF last Saturday with deep water lapping the banks and the masts tangling with the lower branches of the oaks as we tried to rig. Down river at Needs Ore Point, the club house was virtually an island again and the boat park completely flooded. Photos can be viewed here :https://click.mlsend.com/link/… If your scow is there, it may be worth checking your boat is OK as I noticed quite a few covers off and boats filled with water looking in a sorry state. It’s a good moment to remind you of the the BRSC Rules document which states that the Needs Ore boat park and Rope Factory Field are available for the use of members until 31st October – so please make arrangements to remove your boat and other belongings from the sail locker and Hut by then. Lost property too. There is another very high tide with the full moon this weekend so you might want to ensure your boat is adequately secured at Needs Ore.

RACE 2 Race Report from Lucy and Beattie Markby

Summary: Modest turnout but great racing!

Fairly predictable conditions for Autumn series racing at the top of the river, with plenty of gusts cutting round the old oaks and allowing for plenty of movement forwards (and backwards!) through the fleet.

A super course, (thank you Oli Stanley), saw us heading up to ‘A’ on both sides of the river. Victoria and Ed were first round the mark and headed away on a run down to Dock Head. Other boats bunched behind with not much between them until Tim and Miranda lost their halyard and had to retire, leaving 5 scows to battle it out.

Victoria continued to lead from the front with the rest of us nipping at her heels for the remainder of the race. A few minor skirmishes and near misses as we came together rounding the marks and then stretched out between the marks, only to bunch again at the next.

Victoria & Ed retained their lead and were Victorius in the end. 2nd Lucy and Beatttie, 3rd Andrew Duncan. Thanks so much to June and Lizzie on safety and our starters Gerry & Peter Marling Roberts.
