Wind Restrictions

With regard to the Scow fleet we would encourage voluntary reefing at wind speeds gusting above 20 knots and abandonment when winds are consistently above 25 Knots.  The Sailing Secretary holds an anemometer which can be referred to when assessing conditions.

One-Minute Rule

The Club’s scow fleet have a standing One-Minute Rule. This states that all boats must be behind the line within the last minute of the countdown to the start. This is to ensure the line itself is not congested and to provide a clear line of sight of the line for the Starting Officer(s) s they can observe any boat over the line at the start. The penalty for infringing the One-Minute Rule is to perform a 360° turn as soon as is safe and practicable after the starting gun.

Over the Line

If any boat, or part of it, is over the line at the actual race start they must return behind the line and restart the race. In doing so they have no rights over other boats around them, not even starboard right of way over port. On a crowded start line it may prove sensible to wait for the fleet to have passed before attempting to manoeuvre.

Finishing

When boats cross the finish line they must continue to sail on if there are other boats finishing nearby. This is to keep the line clear for the Platform Officers. Always check what is happening around you before turning back over and potentially obscuring the line.
